Training or coaching sessions that involve branding, communication, even resumes and career strategy, when using that phrase, I explain it this way.
Having spent many years in the film and television industry as a Producer, I walk those in the session through the various departments of movie making and how it applies to their life and career.
The concept. What is the thought, the idea, the overall story you want to leave with those you come in contact with?
The treatment. What is the developed thought process not in script form that you can use as a “pitch” to gain someone’s attention?
The script. What is the developed story that you want others to see projected on the screen of their very impressionable memory?
The producer. You are in charge of bringing this movie to life, using all available resources at your disposal and navigating at times through turbulent waters.
The director. You take the script you have written and the resources you have available and you begin plotting out the scenes and making this a story that others will find interesting.
The cast. Since you are the leading talent, what supporting cast will you bring into the project? Who will you surround yourself with to bring out your talents and to bring out theirs as well?
Location and set dressing. If a virtual setting, yes, optics are everything. Make it warm and inviting without being overstated. Take photos of your set and study them and determine what goes where, what background is best, what lighting enhances the set and what furniture or decor does not distract. Consider high definition virtual backgrounds as an alternative source.
Wardrobe. Attire matters. Study colors and which colors work for you. Leave logos and statement clothing for the weekend. Dress for the setting and the audience.
Lighting and audio. If they cannot see you and if they cannot hear you, then all of the other areas are negated in value. Invest in lighting, audio and camera equipment. Put every dime, as they say, on the screen.
Give the audience what they came for…to be informed, to be entertained and to escape their lives for a few moments and learn more about yours.
