Mediocrity may be the second greatest challenge you will face this upcoming week.
Ignorance would most likely rank as the greatest obstacle you might be presented with.
Ignorance is very difficult to overcome for it requires the will of the other person to be open to change.
Mediocrity on the other hand requires that we want change and will seek excellence at any and all cost.
Dr. Charles Stanley, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Atlanta made a statement years ago that really stuck with me.
“Do your best. Be your best. Look your best.”
In short, defy mediocrity.
Like many people I am constantly in a pursuit of excellence.
The pursuit of excellence means that no small detail is too small to give attention to it’s detail.
Yet we defend our lack of excellence on a daily basis.
Whenever I hear someone begin their defense of mediocrity with these words, “Well, it’s just…”, everything within me begins to engage, and not always in a warm fuzzy manner.
Examples and solutions:
A typo. (Read and edit your work)
A sloppy wardrobe. (Goodwill Stores)
The mispronunciation of commonly used words or phrases. (Phonetics with Google)
Simple enunciation of commonly used words or phrases. (Open your mouth and speak clearly)
Sixty percent effort on the field of athletics. (Leave it all on the field and court or get off the field or court)
Commit this week to beginning and completing your work in the pursuit of excellence.
Give every ounce of energy toward improving yourself and encouraging those around you to do the same.
Let’s defy and defeat mediocrity.
“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.” Ecclesiastes 9:10
I like this John. The Lord made us in HIS image, Mediocrity is never acceptable.
