A few weeks ago, someone asked me if I had any options regarding a recent challenge.
At that time, I did not.
Then they asked if I felt like I had hit a wall.
So I answered this way.
“I have no options whatsoever in front of me. So, when you have no options, then every option is available to you.”
They looked at me as though I had said something profound.
Or maybe they were thinking, now wait a minute.
A moment ago, this clown said he had no options.
And now he is saying he has them all.
It’s all about perspective.
We are never out of options.
They are all around us.
They may seem remote.
They may seem impossible.
But you have them.
So, in my crazy way of thinking…
…when you have none, you have them all.
Because that’s when it doesn’t matter.
You can take a chance.
You can run the risk.
Someone asked me recently if fear is a deciding factor now that I have turned sixty years old.
I said, “No, it’s not.. I don’t have to be as scared any more. I have weathered the worst and survived. I can now move forward with reckless abandon.”
Now, that was a personal friend I was talking to.
That would probably not be the best approach in your specific situation.
Reckless abandon may not be where you are…yet.
I got to this place a little later in life.
The entrepreneurs that make a difference, most often arrive at this place in their early twenties.
Some of us get to the same place a little later.
As your options become less, be encouraged.
That means you are narrowing down your possibilities to the impossible.
But then when you get down to no options, that’s when the real fun begins.
Because then you have to create options.
By making a choice.
And the options you create will be the ones that you want to pursue, not the ones that are thrust upon you.
I mention this to people often that feel they are on the edge of giving up, of going under.
Even if you do not consider yourself a person of faith.
Find a Bible, then find the book of Exodus, then find Chapter Fourteen.
Talk about no options.
Moses has led the people of Israel right into a dead end street.
Literally to the edge of the sea.
So it would seem.
The Red Sea to the front.
Approaching Egyptian army to the rear.
Mountains to either side.
Millions of people screaming for fear of their own lives.
Moses had no option.
So, what does he do.
He created an option.
He called upon God.
You have no options remember?
You need one right now.
You now have to make a choice.
And that choice will make all options available to you.
You can stay where you are and fail.
Or you can choose God’s plan for your life and succeed.
A no brainer don’t you think?
All options are available to you.
You just have to make a choice to open yourself to every available option.
“Choose this day…” Joshua
