An Everyday Expression of Hope and Its Potential

An Everyday Expression of Hope

Fitness In These Trying Times…

Hello Fellow Fitness Enthusiasts:

Hope you are safe and being productive in this new world of ours.

I wanted to take a moment and assure all that I am being productive during this time of uncertainty, of which I am…

…I have received so many calls, texts and emails with the following questions, “John!  What now?  How do we remain fit?  I am blowing up!  I am wasting away!”, etc.

Here is my new fitness regiment for the time being.

The gym at work is closed.

Planet Fitness is closed.

Gold’s gym will not let me come back since “the incident.”  The incident being, how was I supposed to know that when they touted “Be Free Friday!” that did not mean come to the aerobics class naked?!   (Thus, my membership has been cancelled.)

So now, I am improvising.

As of this past Monday, I am now on a daily basis doing the following for physical fitness.

At 5, I go to the local high school of which my girls graduated from.

All of these items can be found at most schools at or near the athletic complex.

A steel pole to do the shoulder press.

A sandbag filled with rocks for wrist curls, bicep curls and tricep extensions.

A 5 gallon bucket filled with sand and / or concrete for shoulder shrugs.

Football bleachers for walk / run combinations.

A large tire to flip ten times up ten times back.

Benches for push-ups, squats and step-ups.

And one of my least favorite but most crucial…a single football sled.  50 yards up, ten yards at a time, and 50 yards back.  (It has been 43 years since I have pushed a sled and my body and lungs are now aware.)

I know…I know…you are thinking, “John!  Way to go!  And thank you for inspiring us to be the best version of ourselves!”

Really, though the accolades from you to me are well deserved, my humility does not allow me to self-acknowledge how truly great I am.

Yet, what I sincerely hope and do believe is this.

We are going to get through all of this.  We are going to be better because of all of this.

And I want to thank you for allowing me just a moment to escape the reality of the ever pressing changes and challenges around us to bring a moment of levity into my own life and to remind myself that…

…the human spirit is strong…

…the capacity to achieve is great…

…and the opportunity to exhibit HOPE to others is unlimited.

Thank you for being part of my life…you may or may not know this…but each of you have invested into me and I wish to pay forward a return on your investment.

Have a great rest of your life.  I have to get back to work now.
