It may have been her humble yet confident mid western humor.
Or her Princeton educated sarcastic delivery, but it totally shut me up, when in response to a rather self centered comment I had just made, Ali said, “It’s your world…I’m just living in it.”
And in this current phenomenon of selfies and look at me reality television, thoughts of “we” are reduced to “me”.
I am no different.
Any of us at times may look at the me before the we.
How does this affect me?
How will I benefit?
We are quickly losing the plurality of need.
Our needs are becoming singularly focused.
When is the last time you took an action with no consideration of yourself?
If so, how did it feel?
Probably fantastic.
We are taught it is better to give than to receive…but then if someone else receives, what good for me can come from that?
It is in the giving that is the greatest benefit.
In the coming days, go out of your way to give and not receive.
Find ways to see the whole picture that includes others.
Keep an estimated running total in your mind, that at any given second the global population is at 7.7 billion plus people and climbing.
You are not alone.
Be mindful of others and realize the benefit in the strength of the many.
And let the strength of the many keep you focused upon your true self…a generous, gracious and giving person, trying to find their way…just like the rest of us…who live in your world.
