An Everyday Expression of Hope and Its Potential

An Everyday Expression of Hope

Etch A Sketch

July 16, 2019 by John Hembree Leave a Comment

“Sometimes, ya just gotta shake up the Etch A Sketch.”

Even in the middle of a conversation, at times, a phrase will jump out at me.

Over dinner, Kathryn was recalling an experience that did not turn out like she had hoped.

And then she said, “My daddy used to say, ‘Sometimes ya just gotta shake up the Etch A Sketch.’”

Isn’t that like life?

You thought it was going to turn out one way and it turned out the other way.

You had planned for this person to be part of your life forever and now they are gone in what seemed like a moment.

The “happily ever after” did not turn out so happy.

So what now?

Maybe it is time to start over.

To redirect your path.

To make new and better choices.

Where you had drawn your life to go one way, now you can make a decision to go the other way.

Life is not planned with straight lines.

Neither is an Etch A Sketch.

You can start over.

You can create a new drawing.

Two knobs.

One you.

It may be time to shake up the Etch A Sketch.
