An Everyday Expression of Hope and Its Potential

An Everyday Expression of Hope

Above All Else…Be Not Content

July 5, 2019 by John Hembree 3 Comments

“Consistent” and “Content”.  Two overused words.Be Not Content II

There is a reason people line up for hours and pay lots of money to ride roller coasters.

The valley of the ride makes the hill even more exhilarating.

By the way, the definition for “exhilarating” is, “making one feel very happy, animated, or elated, thrilling.”

Perhaps, “consistent”, and “content”, works for a spouse who is a good provider and day in and day out over the course of fifty years they do the same thing consistently and are probably quite content.

Nothing wrong with that.

It may even work for an employer and / or employee who makes widgets day in and day out.

Nothing wrong with that either.

But for me?

Give me some up and down on the ride.

Give me some pain with the pleasure, so I can distinguish between the two.

Surround me with non-contented people.

Consistent and contented people remain where they are for long periods of time because few things drive them forward, upward or out of their box.

They often feel safe there.

Put your “consistent” self on the shelf for a day or so, and do something different, so out of the norm that it will cause those around you to wonder.

I have been taught throughout my life to be “content in all things”.

I hate to disagree with this teaching.

However, I must…

The Book does say, “Wherever you are, be content.”

The Book does not follow up and say, “Now stay there.”

I want to be content just long enough to realize that this is not where I wish to be for another second.

Be consistent in this…your confidence.

Confidence is contagious.

Extremely.

Let someone catch yours.

Be the person that says:

“You are crazy not to hire me.”

“You are out of your mind not to love me.”

“You have stepped outside of your brain to consider any other option of which I am not a part of.”

Be confident in everything.

Be contented in nothing.

Pursue the reason you were born and given life.

Then live it.

Thanks for sharing the good message John. I’m not sure that I would ever want to change my laid back demeanor but I’m all too familiar with getting in a “consistent” groove. This is a year of INCREASE so I’m hoping to see the tops of some new peaks and will still remain faithful in the deepest of valleys.

Good one and good reminder . . . . I like to stay “in my box” but I learn and grow more when I venture out of my comfort zone! And that is where confidence begins to build . . .

I am going through a phase of growth and learning that exceeds any other time in my life.

Not always the easy lessons, but always learning.
