On this day, millions of Americans celebrate their independence.
I celebrate hope.
The hope of a better tomorrow for many who wish to live in this great country.
The hope of those who long to be united with their families.
The hope that the life I have found others will find also.
Good people risk everything to try and come to this country so that they can give hope to future generations, just as I do.
Such a disturbing photograph, taken recently, of a father and his young daughter who drowned while attempting to cross the Rio Grande from Mexico to Texas, as his wife, the child’s mother watched from the bank of the river.
All he wanted was for his family to have the hope of a better life, to have true independence.
There is no wall high enough or long enough that will keep out those who seek a better life for themselves and their families.
They will risk everything to find hope.
