An Everyday Expression of Hope and Its Potential

An Everyday Expression of Hope

He Who Dares

"They dared Mittens to do it. And Mittens never turned down a dare."
“They dared Mittens to do it. And Mittens never turned down a dare.”

“Fortune sides with him who dares.”  Virgil, ancient Roman poet.

Why do so few people dare to fulfill their life’s dream?

Some of the craziest events of our lives were and still may be done with no forethought whatsoever.

That may also explain what happened right after the thought that was not considered prior to taking action.

Do you remember your first time off the high dive at the local pool?

You did not want to be the kid who walked cautiously out to the end of the high dive, looking down and then retreating for the stand.

No.

Your first time on the high dive, you did not look and you did not think.

You ran toward the end of the board and off you went.

It was not pretty.

But you did it.

You did not think.

You did.

We can over analyze life so much until we become so obliterated with information, options and unmade attempts that we’re not even sure how to interpret the information into a concise and planned out direction and course of action.

Recently, a colleague of mine, also named John, was introducing to me technology that was not new, yet was new to me.  John could not understand my trepidation in not only using this technology myself as well as also introducing it to a classroom full of very smart people.

I delayed, I complained, I whined…and John just continued to reiterate, “John, you can do this.  Dare to embrace technology.”

John had prepared me and all I had to do was jump.

And I did.

Within the next twenty four hours, dare to do something beyond your capacity to think through it.

Tell yourself, this time you will do it.

Then do.

Go for “it”!  Whatever “it” is, dare to do “it”!

Find your dare and then take it.

Great post! I like the mentor story. Those young at heart and that want to learn don’t worry about their mentor/boss being younger than themselves. Oh and one other question…..Grandpaw??????
