An Everyday Expression of Hope and Its Potential

An Everyday Expression of Hope

Doing The Impossible

April 15, 2019 by John Hembree 5 Comments

Impossible

Excuses that are oft repeated, are…

“I could never do that.”

“That will require more than I have to offer.”

“That will take a better man, or woman, than me.”

You could do it.

You already have within you that which is necessary to accomplish the task.

And you are the better man, and you are the better woman.

Doing the impossible is not accomplished by the masses.

It is accomplished by the enduring few.

Maybe even the one.

It is not original but if you take two letters out of the word impossible it looks like this:

IMPOSSIBLE

The limitations that we put upon ourselves are never the limitations that were intended.

The following exercise will take being honest with yourself.

Jot down one thing you consider impossible.

At the end of this seemingly impossible accomplishment write the word impossible and scratch out the letters “im”.

If you consider the extraction of those two letters, and phonetically pronounce them, you will find you have just extracted yourself as the biggest obstacle in doing the impossible.

Im.

Otherwise…I’m…I am…as in you and me.

We are our biggest obstacle.

I am.

You are.

We tell ourselves that it cannot be done and because we know ourselves so well, we believe it.

Who said these things are not possible?

We believe, as well, the words of limitation that people in our lives heave upon us.

Simply believe that you can do the unbelievable.

You can achieve the impossible.

Do not listen to those who say to you, “You cannot change the world.”

You actually can!

Fed one family?

Feed one hundred.

Clothed ten children?

Clothe one hundred.

Ran a half marathon?

Run the second 13.1 miles and raise money for a cause while doing it.

You were born with unlimited potential.

Who lied to you and said something could not be done?

You did.

You lied to yourself and believed the lie.

Do the im POSSIBLE!

My husband, who is a clinical psychologist, often reminds me that the mind cannot execute a negative. So true, and scripture backs this up!

As always this is wonderful, John. For many, many years I thought about that word, “impossible”. Every moment that I was awake. I believed it was indeed impossible to change my life and to become “un-addicted” to drugs. For YEARS I felt this way. But I am walking, talking, living, breathing, proof that ALL things are possible to them who love God and are called according to HIS purpose!!!!! September 10th of this year will be 8 years of POSSIBLE for me!!!!! Thank you for ALL that you write about. They sure do make me think and make my day!!!!!

    Cathy,

    I love that.

And I loved the phrase, “eight years of possible”.

In fact, on that same day, we will celebrate together.

I will celebrate 55 years of possible and you will be celebrating 8.

I may borrow that phrase from you with your permission.

You are an encouragement to many people.

    John

Well, John, sounds like you, your wife and I need to celebrate “POSSIBLE” together. And you can use my little phrase a often as you want to. Thanks again for being such a positive influence in my life and in the lives of so many others!!!!!

      Cathy
