When we stood outside the door of the master bedroom, our recently wedded daughter, innocently, said as she opened the door, “And this, is where the magic happens.”
In May of 2013, our oldest daughter, Savannah, married a wonderful man.
When they bought their first house, we were given a tour.
Those present were excited as we went throughout each part of the house.
And then we were brought to the precipice of where the magic happens.
I love that!!
And the description of “where the magic happens” can also apply to life.
It is a description that separates the mundane from the magical.
It may be a door at the end of a hallway, it may be an area of expertise, for a surgeon it may be the operating room, for a writer it may be a computer or a journal.
It may be any number of areas.
It is the place where one leaves their comfort zone and steps beyond themselves.
In your comfort zone, you can pretty much handle any situation.
At the place where the magic happens, it is beyond you and your day to day abilities.
It is where you reach beyond, extend, grasp, leap and throw yourself into the sphere of the uncomfortable.
But once there you find that you become comfortable quickly.
And then you extend yourself again out of your new and expanded comfort zone.
Today, push yourself out of the comfort of yesterday’s experience.
Want to start small?
Learn five new words, lift five more pounds, meet five new people.
If writing a card or note to someone you care about terrifies you, make it happen.
Define your comfort zone for today.
And move outside of that.
Make the magic happen.
