An Everyday Expression of Hope and Its Potential

An Everyday Expression of Hope

Turn The Sail

Sailing

I love quotes.  Always have.  And I love to apply them to everyday life and when I can.

While reading Time Magazine I found my most recent favorite quote.

It has everything to do with a change of path, an altering of your course.

We as humans are almost always changing.

We are constantly altering our course.

Yes, sometimes there are those who find a course. and they remain steadfast.

But that is the exception not the rule..

The rest of us set sail in life and as we get out on the open sea the winds pick up.

The storms begin to intensify.

The waves crash against the side of our boat.

We fight and fight against the winds which are taking us in a direction of destruction.

And we try to calm the storms and change our path in our own strength.

However, I have often found strength in the storms, testing me to see if I can endure and withstand the constant pounding of the waves.

So, when reading the section in Time Magazine called Briefing, I found the following quote.

Kofi Anan, former U.N. Secretary General and current U.N. – Arab League peace envoy, repeating an African proverb to Syrian President Bashar Asssad during talks to end months of violence throughout the country.

“You can’t turn the wind so turn the sail.”

You can not stop the strong winds and the direction that the storm and the winds are taking you in life.

However, you have within you the ability to turn the sail to allow you to navigate to safer water and the course of which has been chosen for you.

I’ve never thought about life in this perspective before. Perhaps it’s time to turn the sails. 🙂 Thank you, John Hembree!! Your words are ALWAYS a blessing.

Thanks John, I will be leaving my present job in a few years and reading this is just what I needed to be reminded to start now “Turn the Sail.” Your words of encourage and hope are a blessing to many. On my desk I have many quotes, never thought about it before now but most are words that encourage or at least get people to thinking. Thanks for the new one.
