An Everyday Expression of Hope and Its Potential

An Everyday Expression of Hope

“Just Not Happy In My Work, I Guess”

December 3, 2018 by John Hembree 5 Comments

Herbie

You will remember the Christmas classic, Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer.

And Herbie the elf.

Herbie, if you will recall, was different than the other elves.

Where the other elves all looked exactly alike, and like robots talked alike and worked alike, Herbie was a misfit among them.

Why?

Because Herbie wanted to be a dentist.

Herbie’s dream of being a dentist made him a miserable elf.

In fact, he was not very good as an elf at all.

Because he WAS SUPPOSED to be a dentist.

Remember this scene?

What might make you a misfit among other people?

What keeps you from wanting to be just another clone of everybody else?

What talents do you already possess that others do not?

What dreams are you barely containing within you when others are around?

You want to scream, when you hear someone say, “Why can’t you just be like everyone else?”

Be who you are.

Be who you were made to be.

Some may call you a misfit, when in fact you are unique, special and meant to stand out.

    Two thoughts, John:

    1. I am Herbie. I don’t want to add to the ranks of dentists; however, I do believe I was meant to be more than “general labor”. It is of Seminary that I dream of whilst I toil in muck and mire. The problem that I face is how will I be able to support my family while I go neck to school to begin a 3rd degree? By the way, I’ve finished none.

    2. Ahh Christmas! I LOVE Christmas! Santa, elves, snow, glowing nostril reindeer, and the best part, the greatest gift: Yeshua the King! Born King and forever reigning as King.

Correction: back to school, not neck to school. Ahh the blessings of auto correct and Swype on the touch screen.

If it supposed to happen. It will happen.

I have usually been the guy standing in God’s will for my own life.

    Correction on my own part.

I have been standing in God’s way, not God’s will.

That is totally different but not the same.

Thanks, John. My strength will continue to rise as I wait on our Lord.
