An Everyday Expression of Hope and Its Potential

An Everyday Expression of Hope

The Lines Between Us

August 2, 2018 by John Hembree 2 Comments

A LineIn the book, The Help, by Kathryn Stockett, there is a discussion between Aibeleen and Minny, two of the many maids who work in Jackson, Mississippi, in the early 1960’s.

Aibeleen is explaining to Minny that the lines that separate people are made up.

They don’t exist.

The line between the rich and the poor, black and white, this section of town, that section of town, men and women, the educated and the non, the help and those they work for.

Aibeleen said, “Some folks just made those up, long time ago.”

We either separate ourselves from others or we allow others to separate themselves from us.

Financial status has no bearing at the point of death.

We each take the same amount of money with us.

None.

Skin color should not divide us.

Money, fame, nationality, politics none of it.

Why?

Because of how Aibeleen ends the discussion between she and Minny.

“Kindness don’t have no boundaries.”

Look for the lines of division in your life.

They don’t exist.

Because of kindness.

Thank you Lee Ann for the encouragement.

I hope to write a similar book to The Help one day entitled, Secrets Of A Southern Sanctuary.

Based on true life stories I have known about growing up in southern churches.

True to life stories can make such great fiction because it is often so hard to believe.

Have a great day and thank for the comment.
