Hanging On For Dear Life

February 29, 2016 by John Hembree 2 Comments

Hand on the edge of a cliff

Pat’s business venture had not gone as he had hoped.   Sales were down, expenses were up.  The savings he had used to start the business were gone and he was hanging on for dear life.

Her relationships had dissolved.  She was pregnant.  The father of the child was no where to be found.  Her parents would not accept her back.  Shannon was all alone in life and she was hanging on for dear life.

Mattie Lee knew that when the doctor returned he would not bring good news.  Days, weeks, three, six, nine, twelve months, but no longer.  She knew she would be hanging on for dear life.

You may be hanging on for dear life as well.

You may feel like you have fallen off a cliff and you are hanging by one hand, your fingers are cramped and are slipping closer and closer to the edge.

You can not call for help because no one knows where you are.

You did not tell anyone you were this close to the edge.

If you give up now and let go, death is certain.

Your mind goes numb with fear while your memory flashes images of everyone close to you.

You find clarity of thought, and as the seconds pass, you begin to accept your inevitable fate.

But it is not your fate that is inevitable.

It is your faith that is inevitable.

Your faith tells you to hang on.

Your faith reminds you that God has a specific plan for your life.

Your faith becomes a supernatural grip that will not let go…

…no matter how long you have to hang on.

If you let go now you will never know the reason for which you were born.

If you give up now you will never discover the meaning of your life, and what God intended it to be, from start to finish.

We all find ourselves at some point, over the cliff, with one hand seemingly between life and death.

You must say to yourself, “I will not let go.”

You will find a strength you did not know you possessed.

You know that God will rescue you and reveal his plan for your life and those lives that follow yours, and because of that…

…you hang on for dear life.

Do not let go.

“Rescue me!  Bend down your ear and listen to my plea and save me.”  Psalm 71:2 (TLB)

Thank you John, this came at just the most perfect time as most important messages do. I’ll share this with my mom as she is going through a ‘hanging on for dear life’ moment.
God is good all the time,
    Stephanie

Amen! I have been at that place, but because of faith, because of mercy and grace I was able to walk thru that very dark place. God does show us new chapters in life when life yanks the rug out from under our feet. We just have to be willing to listen for His small, still voice.
