We so overthink prayer.
We try to connect beautiful sounding words into a sentence so that they sound eloquent.
But are they effective?
Have you ever heard someone truly crying out to God?
Not very eloquent but it sure is effective.
Not everyone will experience this type of prayer, but I have been part of a gathering where people began to pray, not a word being spoken aloud, and it was so powerful.
At other times, I have heard people literally groan as if in pain.
The Bible refers to this as travailing before the Lord.
Yet at other times, prayer is simply talking to God as you would your best friend.
I would encourage you to research prayers throughout scripture and read them out loud.
They will seem so conversational at times.
Prayer is a conversation.
You talk then God talks.
God talks then you talk.
In the sixty sixth Psalm, the chapter ends with these words, “Blessed be God, who didn’t turn away when I was praying and didn’t refuse me his kindness and love.”
As the preceding verse says, he will not turn away when you are praying.
Maybe it is time you had a conversation with the One who knows you better than any other.
