“I had an abortion as a teenager, and kept it a secret for thirty years.”
“I was molested as a child and raped as a teenager and my granddaughter died when she was only a few days old.”
“My daughter almost died from an extreme disease and my son has attempted suicide multiple times.”
“My heart is ripped in two. I will never be happy again.”
The worn, the tattered, the homeless, the godless?
Actually, three of the four quotes were spoken to me minutes after meeting them.
All God’s people.
All living out a real life.
The writer Matthew records this in the fifth chapter, “For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust.”
No one escapes.
We each experience pleasure.
We each experience pain.
Remember the words of Job, having lost everything, including his family, “The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh, blessed be the name of the Lord.”
We will have pain given and we will have pleasure taken.
Both from the same loving God who always has our best interest at heart.
