The proverb, out of sight…out of mind, popped in my head this morning.
It’s not true.
Well, it may be true in some cases.
But certainly not in all.
For me?
Out of sight…never out of mind.
When Christ heard that Lazarus had died, he was deeply moved with sorrow and grief.
However, it took him four days to get to Mary and Martha, the sisters of Lazarus, and to provide one of the greatest miracles recorded in the Bible.
Lazarus was out of sight to everyone.
He was dead and buried.
No one had laid eyes on him for four days.
What took Christ so long to get there?
Other miracles.
Other miracles, other touches, other words of encouragement, other life changing situations.
But on the right day at the right moment, Lazarus was restored to life.
You may feel like you are out of sight and out of mind to God.
That you are laying dead in a grave forgotten by all.
That your miracle will never arrive.
Be patient and do not give up.
The children of Israel waited four hundred years while in captivity to be released.
They waited another forty years after captivity wondering in the desert.
The woman who waited twelve years to be healed and her bleeding to stop, did not know Jairus was waiting as she crawled through the crush of people just to touch the hem of Christ’s robe.
Jairus, a religious ruler, who was not aware of the lady bleeding to death, was waiting for Christ to touch and heal his daughter, who was dying, and Matthew recorded she had already died.
The lame man had waited since birth to walk.
The blind man had waited since birth to see.
Give that scenario a moment of thought.
A blind man.
Everything was out of sight for him, but Christ was certainly not out of mind to him.
The demoniac whose family had waited for him to be restored and returned to them.
What are you waiting on God to do?
Restore a relationship?
Restore your joy, your health, your finances, your children?
To find the right job?
You are neither out of sight, nor out of mind to God.
Christ is on his way to your need.
How long will you wait for him to show up?
Allow God time to work out a few other miracles on his way to yours.
Wouldn’t that be a unique prayer?
“God, I am praying for those people who need your love, your grace, your mercy, your power today. I will wait for you, and will be right here believing when you get here for mine, no matter how long it takes.”
Your miracle, the one you are waiting for, is on it’s way, and will be right on time.
