It is difficult for me to separate the Bible from romantic literature.
I am not lessening the Bible.
In fact, I believe it to be the ultimate love story.
The story of Jacob and Rachel.
Rachel was “shapely”.
And Jacob loved her.
It was truly love at first sight.
In fact, “Jacob kissed Rachel and started crying.”
The woman certainly must have been able to kiss.
Jacob probably nicknamed her “magic mouth” after that kiss.
Brought the man to tears.
The deeper side of the story is that Jacob truly loved Rachel.
More than he had any other woman in his life and more than he would any other in the future.
There was no after for Jacob.
Rachel was his after.
His ever after.
He loved her so much that he had to work for her father for fourteen years to have her as his wife.
“But they seemed to him but a few days, he was so much in love.” Genesis 29:20
Maybe you have been waiting on someone or something for years.
Maybe a child to come home, maybe the right man, the right woman, to see your dreams come true, your life to have an impact.
You have patiently waited.
Though it seems like forever, once your dream is realized and your prayer is answered, and you look back on the situation, it will have seemed but like a few days.
As there are no overnight successes, there are no overnight realization of dreams or prayers answered.
I wish it could and would happen that way.
God’s time frame is so much different than ours.
He sees the whole picture.
We see only a piece here and a piece there.
Keep working toward your goal, whether it takes fourteen years, or fourteen months, don’t give up.
God put that dream and that prayer within your heart.
Thought it make take years, it will seem but a few days.
“Don’t be impatient. Wait for the Lord, and he will come and save you! Be brave, stouthearted, and courageous. Yes, wait and he will help you.” Psalm 27:14
