An Everyday Expression of Hope and Its Potential

An Everyday Expression of Hope

Living Out An Almost Life (Our Failure…God’s Progress)

March 29, 2015 by John Hembree 1 Comment

Failure and ProgressMany of us, probably all, have at one time, tried to do the right thing at the wrong time.

Or had the timing right but did the wrong thing at the right time.

In each circumstance, we what…failed.

We almost succeeded.

Failure is not bad, detrimental to personal growth, nor is it permanent.

We each fail hopefully.

Because we take chances, we risk, we set goals of achievement.

And hopefully, when we fail, we keep going until we fail again.

Earlier today, I received a text from a close friend.

He was responding to an earlier blog post entitled, A Past Life Person To A Future Life Person.

Our text exchange went as follows.

He: Thanks for today’s blog.  Needed it more than u could know.

Me: I am glad it was helpful.  I wrote it because I need to move forward myself in many areas.

He: Wish I could learn more about humility just so I could move on.

Me: Our continual failure is God’s continual progress.

He: He’s making a LOT of progress with me then.

Me: Me as well.

My friend will be fine and will move forward.

Why?

Because he realizes that he, along with the rest of us, fail at times.

We do not live up to the standards we have set for our life, or that have been set for us.

When we fall short, we may not initially see what God intends to gain out of our failure.

God’s progress.

As I texted my friend, “Our continual failure is God’s continual progress.”

I won’t even try to list the ways we each fail.  The list is endless.

Every time you continue forward after failing, you are making progress.

Progress is not measured in micro-measurements of length.

If you are further along now, after you fail, than you were then, before you failed, then you have made progress.

And you do it again, and again, and again and again.

It has been said many times, but without failure there is no success.

The key is to recognize the cause of the failure, admit it, correct it and progress from there.

It sounds trite and almost flippant, but……today’s failure is tomorrow’s progress.

“A man who refuses to admit his mistakes can never be successful.  But if he confesses and forsakes them, he get’s another chance.”  Proverbs 28:13

I had a longer comment written out but I erased it. Thanks to God for what you wrote, John. He has such perfect timing.
