An Everyday Expression of Hope and Its Potential

An Everyday Expression of Hope

The Naked Heart (The Greater The Love…The Greater The Tragedy)

Love and PainProverbs, the twenty-seventh chapter and nineteenth verse.

“As water reflects a face, so a man’s heart reflects the man.”

A naked heart is the perfect place to observe your own reflection.

I reflect upon words, actions, intentions of the heart and the unintentional failings of people.

We’re just a mess…a train wreck…a ball of unwound yarn loosely scattered all over the room.

Yet, every now and then we find ourselves aligned, heart, actions and intentions.

It is then that our heart reflects our true self.

People want to do good, they strive to be kind, they pray for peace.

They, we, just fall short of achievement sometimes.

Yet we are driven to attain, we long to reflect what is truly inside, the true us, not the us who we try to be, but the real us, with no masks.

With naked hearts.

Just flat out, gut wrenching, heart being ripped out of our chest people, who long for God, whether we know it or not, and we long to belong, to be accepted, to love and to be loved.

I heard an interview with two individuals who were separated in life and found each other twenty eight years later.

I can not remember the exact words while being broadcast on one of the National Public Radio slice of life type of shows.

It was the last two lines of the interview that caught my attention and I was reminded of it as I was reading on the reflections of a man’s heart in Proverbs.

The woman said, “If I could have ripped open my chest and shown him my physical heart he still would not have understood how I loved him once he was gone.”

He replied with a heart felt Nicholas Sparks quote from Nights in Rodanthe.

“‘The greater the love, the greater the tragedy when it’s over.’  Those two elements always go together.”

I wonder if that is how God felt when he created man, knowing that man would one day break his heart.

“The greater the love, the greater the tragedy.”
