(A republished piece from August 2012. I was reminded of it today.) JHH
I can remember it like it was yesterday only it was maybe almost fifteen years ago.
Sitting in a conference room with fellow employees and the owner of the entertainment company we worked for discussing plans for the future.
The owner which at times could be very passionate in a meeting was dreaming and being a visionary.
As his excitement grew the dots connecting the overall vision was getting farther and farther apart making it hard to keep up with the vision.
The owner says, “Is anyone following this?” That’s when Gary said, “Man, I’m with ya all over the place!”
I have used that line so many times since then when someone asks, “Are you following me?”
The Children of Israel could have said that to God.
Go and check out a map of their journey once they left Egypt.
It truly is “all over the place.”
And in that God had a plan.
In fact, he told them he had to lead them in an erratic path so that they would not tremble at the enemies they would encounter and want to return to Egypt.
A few years ago I taught a lesson called, “God Doesn’t Always Work In A Straight Line”.
He certainly does not in my case.
It’s here, then there, over there, then here.
And I still do not see how all the pieces will one day fit together but He does and that is all that really matters.
So if someone ever says to you, “You are all over the place.”, just reply, “So was God when he led the Children of Israel and they seemed to do okay.”
And remember this statement made by Moses to God when looking for life’s direction as we each do practically every day.
Just a short statement and prayer by Moses regarding their present situation which had major implications throughout history.
“Then he said to Him (God), ‘If Your precence does not go with us, do not lead us up from here.” Exodus 33:15
It may not always look like a straight line, but if God is leading you, follow it.
It is exactly where he wishes for you to travel.
Maybe…all over the place.
