A Father Finds Faith

February 27, 2015 by John Hembree 3 Comments

Father and sonHistory tells us there was a large crowd that had gathered.

One man, obviously among many, spoke up.

Two key words.

“Spoke up.”

Another two key words.

“My son.”

He was a father.

Maybe there was panic in his eyes, or maybe there was some sense that his love for his son would not allow him to remain quiet.

Possibly among the large crowd there was such a singular focus on this one man and his son that he was impossible to ignore.

When he spoke up he said, “I brought my son for you to heal.  Oh, have mercy on us, and do something, if you can.”

The man to whom he had directed his plea responded, “If I can?  Anything is possible if you have faith.”

You may have already known that this story is depicted in the Bible, in the seventh chapter of the gospel of Mark.

This father had a child for whom no medical relief could be found.

However, the child had this advantage.

His father, though it was small, had faith.

His father, knew Jesus could bring both mercy to them and healing to his son that he loved.

When Jesus said, “Anything is possible if you have faith.”, is a lesson that all fathers can learn on this eve of Father’s Day – 2014.

The father said, “I do have faith; oh help me to have more!”

Those words should be our daily prayer as we pray God’s grace and mercy over the lives of our children.

Those words should be our daily prayer as we claim the miraculous power of Christ into the lives of our children.

Those words should be our daily prayer as we bring our children to Jesus each day and lay them at his feet and say, “Have mercy on us and do something if you can.”

Those words should be our daily prayer as we declare in humble boldness, “I do have faith; oh help me to have more!”

Fathers, pray specifically for your children.

Fathers, pray boldly for your children.

Fathers, pray expectantly for your children.

There is no greater protection for his children than a father’s prayer.

In my eyes, everything we have in life is a gift from God. Being the Father of 2 wonderful daughters and the Family they have gave me, beside Gods own son Jesus he gave us, I think our children are the greatest gift we could have in life!
