Run Through The Base

February 5, 2015 by John Hembree Leave a Comment

Running Through The BaseEach of my daughters played competitive tournament sports growing up.

For a few years I was an assistant coach with my youngest daughters tournament softball team.

One the key drills we would conduct, especially when they were younger was to run through the base.

When running from home plate to first base, yes, you have to get a good jump out of the batters box, but it is the last three steps before reaching first base that may determine whether someone is safe or out.

If you pull up three steps from first base, there is a good chance the ball will arrive first.

If you not only run as hard as you can, but as you approach first base, you find something extra and take that extra momentum through the base with you, there is a greater chance you will be safe, on a close play.

Same with life.

If we are to work at a task until 3:00 p.m., we start slowing down at 2:57 p.m.

Run through the appointed time and see how much more you will accomplish in the last few moments.

Don’t stop when everyone else does.

Run through the base.

Just as God is finishing what He started in you, you must complete the task he has placed within you.

“And I am sure that God who began the good work within you will keep right on helping you grow in his grace until his task within you is finally finished.”  Philippians 1:6
