An Everyday Expression of Hope and Its Potential

An Everyday Expression of HopeĀ

To Die With Dignity

Brittany MurphyMuch is in the news regarding Brittany Maynard these days.

She passed away yesterday, Saturday, November 1, 2014.

Why did she die?

Because she chose to.

Actually, she did not choose to die.

She simply chose to die with dignity.

This is an interesting debate in our society.

Compassionate death.

In this case, Ms. Maynard, just twenty nine years old, had only a short time to live and the end of her life was going to be painful and even more debilitating.

She moved to Oregon with her husband and family, so when the time came she could end her life surrounded by those she loved, where it would be legal to end her life at the time of her choosing.

I have no idea as to her views toward faith.

I do know that I am not at all quick to judge she and her family’s decision.

If my own mother, in her final days, had sincerely asked me to assist her to peacefully let her go to God, I am not at all sure what I would have done.

To die with dignity.

What could be wrong with that?

John
