Even as I am typing these words I have just placed upon our stove a pan of water which I have set the eye of the stove to the highest setting.
In the pan of water I have placed two items and am now awaiting the water to be brought to a boiling point.
Why in the world am I doing this?
For this reason, I was reading a book entitled How To Measure The Meaning Of Your Life, or, something similar.
This sentence jumped out at me.
“The same hot water that can soften a carrot is the same water that can harden an egg.”
I rolled that over and over in my mind.
Now I want to experiment with this for myself and observe the physical changes in the nature of the carrot and the egg, both placed in the same hot pan of water.
That is what is going on right now in our kitchen, a pan of boiling water and within the pan, two carrots and one egg.
It’s like life. The same experiences and the pressures of life will soften one person and harden another.
For tonight, I am wondering…am I being softened or hardened?
Which one are you? The egg or the carrot?
“I will take from you your hearts of stone and give you tender hearts of love for God.” Ezekiel 11:19 (TLB)
