Having a down moment?
A less than stupendous day?
You set out this morning with high hopes and great aspirations and by noon you were at the mercy of the voices that surrounded you.
Negative, nagging, and nasty little curmudgeons that suck the ever loving life out of you.
You may even be your own negative, nagging and nasty little curmudgeon.
Everyone has these days.
It’s not just you.
I went through it in the last twenty four hours.
To get out of a negative tail spin I had to go back and read my own article on “I Never Thought”.
Thank goodness my friend Jacki Berrong suggested that topic two days ago.
She must have known I would need it.
At times we look around and can find no one to encourage us.
You may be an encourager to others.
That may be your gift.
But even encouragers need encouraging at times.
So, there I was, looking forlorn in the mirror.
Going through several, “I never thought…” negative statements.
This is why you should intensely and consistently study the Bible!
Because the words of God come back to you in the time of need.
King David, who experienced many difficulties, challenges, as well as abandonment and betrayal by those closest to him, went through these times as well.
In fact, it got so bad for David that, even those who fought with him, were now ready to kill him.
So what did King David do?
He encouraged himself.
He had to.
There was no one else available.
“Moreover David was greatly distressed because the people spoke of stoning him, for all the people were embittered, each one because of his sons and his daughters. But David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.” I Samuel 30:6
Sometimes, it’s just you and God.
And you better take quick action.
Because discouragement is indeed a slippery slope.
So, encourage yourself in the Lord your God.
I did this earlier today.
And within minutes, I found myself…
…re-focused…re-energized…and re-dedicated…
…to the life that God has called me to.
