You see, I am an only child, biologically.
I have no other blood relative alive on this earth that I am aware of.
My mother married a man, whose wife had passed away, when I was five.
My bio dad was long gone.
My new step-father adopted me and changed my name from Rowe to Hembree.
He raised me in a Godly home until the day of this death in 1977.
Along with my new name came three step sisters, two older, one younger by six months.
My younger sister and I basically grew up together.
As far as I was concerned, she was my best friend.
We played together and watched out for each other.
I was so proud of her.
And remain so.
Today is her birthday.
And as I do every year, I promise myself I will send the card early this year.
And this year, as in every year, I am looking at the card, and it will go out tomorrow.
The picture attached is from the yearly spring piano recital from our childhood.
We are not looking very happy, so this much have been taken before the recital.
One day, God will say to me, “She was a better sister to you, than you were a brother to her.”
And he will be exactly right.
Happy Birthday, Lawana Hembree Bunn.
