Earlier this evening I purchased a book authored by Vincent Bugliosi entitled Divinity Of Doubt – Subtitled The God Question.
Mr. Bugliosi is a famed Los Angeles Prosecutor who is an agnostic. I am only a few pages into the book but I can tell I am going to love it.
It touches where I am.
I do believe in the Christian faith and in Christ. But as Christ lived it…not as we live it.
Since childhood I have loved to question the Bible and those who taught it.
As a former prosecutor and investigator Mr. Bugliosi stresses, If it is true, there will be evidence to back it up.
When a pastor, preacher or teacher makes a comment that reflects that they, “know beyond a shadow of a doubt that what they believe to be true is true”, I always want to sit with them and ask them how do they know this, why do they believe what they believe.
I have for a few months now been reading the Bible as an agnostic and it has so opened my eyes to an understanding as to how true agnostics might read the Bible, with a whole lot of questions.
God loves questions, He’s okay with the back and forth. He is quite comfortable defending his purpose.
Yet, we do not question, we do not challenge, we do not even shake our own faith, because it takes up to dark, dark places where real truth can only be found.
That is where God wants to take us, down to the “stuff” that few are willing to dig for.
He’s there. He’s already left a voice mail message for you. But you have to actually retrieve the voice mail to know what the message might contain.
Shake up your faith. You may just find it.
