An Everyday Expression of Hope and Its Potential

An Everyday Expression of HopeĀ

Nine Words (Continued)

September 16, 2012 by John Hembree Leave a Comment

Since I wrote about nine words last night I have been thinking since that time about the power of nine words.

As phrases came to my mind I began jotting them down. Then as verses came to my mind I would jot them down.

Pretty soon I had a list going and I thought this list will keep growing and may encourage someone. Surely anyone can remember nine words. And those nine words may be just what someone needs to sustain hope through their current situation.

So, at least for a couple of days I will be listing nine word phrases of encouragement or verses that any of us can cling to.

In no certain order at this point here we go, with most of these taken from the New American Standard translation or the New International Version translation.

“Come quickly to help me, O Lord my Savior.” Psalm 38:22

“Do not withhold your mercy from me, O Lord.” Psalm 40:11

“Blessed is he who has regard for the weak.” Psalm 41:1

“My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.” Psalm 42:2

“We will not fear though the earth give way.” Psalm 46:2

“When I am afraid, I will trust in you.” Psalm 56:3

“In God I trust; I will not be afraid.” Psalm 56:11

“For great is your love, reaching to the heavens…” Psalm 57:10

“Save us and help us with your right hand.” Psalm 60:5

“Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer.” Psalm 61:1

“He is my fortress, I will never be shaken.” Psalm 62:2

“He is my fortress, I will not be shaken.” Psalm 62:6

“May God be gracious to us and bless us.” Psalm 67:1

“Do not withhold good from those who deserve it.” Proverbs 3:27

“A heart at peace gives life to the body.” Proverbs 14:30

“As iron sharpen iron, so one man sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17

“For I know the plans I have for you.” Jeremiah 29:11

I will end tonight with one that caught my attention tonight as my future son-in-law was preaching. (I was also intently listening.)

This one really made me think.

“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

Just nine words. How meaningful can nine simple words be?

Life changing type of meaningful.
