An Everyday Expression of Hope and Its Potential

An Everyday Expression of Hope

Sarah Part II – Subtitle – Sarah’s Got A Smile

July 12, 2012 by John Hembree Leave a Comment

Last night I had the privilege of writing about Sarah who I met in Staples just yesterday.

She is battling leukemia. Last night’s blog entitled Do You Ever Get Scared Sarah? will give the background.

From time to time people will comment on a specific blog they found interesting. In this case, I received an email this afternoon from Andrea, though I did not recognize the email address.

I was caught off guard by the email’s content. Though I did not gain Andrea’s permission to use her comments I am hoping she will not mind. Here they are.

“John, As I read this, tears began to stream down my face. Sarah is an amazing, strong woman and I am fortunate enough to know her as she lives next door. Through this battle she is fighting, she still laughs and is ALWAYS there for you. Very cool that you wrote about her, she is an amazing young woman, fighting for her life!!! Instead of dwelling on it, she keeps fighting, with a smile and laughter!!!”

Wow. And all this from a brief conversation in Staples with a woman battling leukemia.

I am not sure how Andrea came to know of the blog but I am glad she did. We now know even more about Sarah.

In an even more “God weird” kind of way, this morning I was listening to the Steve Harvey Show on the local R&B station. I am probably one of the few white guys that listen to the show regularly and I love that show. Anyway, they were playing a song by Kirk Franklin called Smile. It caught my attention.

I am posting the link to the song and lyrics. If Sarah can smile through leukemia is there some great problem that you are going through that you can not also smile through?

We ask God for money, relationships and stuff all the time. Tonight I am asking God to make me like Sarah and simply…give me a smile.
