Granted, I am wrestling with this topic by a pool within a gated neighborhood within a very affluent community in Georgia called Lake Oconee. (My brother-in-laws place of which we visit often.) So, it ain’t like I am suffering for Jesus on this Friday morning, however, my mind and heart is torn with this subject.
This week I have been able to do something I enjoy, read, read and then read some more. The book I took up yesterday and now am in the middle of is The Cause Within You by Matthew Barnett, a pastor in Los Angeles of a church called The Dream Center. The subtitle of the book is called Finding The One Great Thing You Were Created To Do In This World.
I have a love / hate relationship with this topic. It is what we all desire to find in our lives, that one great thing. That would be the love part. Yet, I would guess, in fact I know, it alludes most of us. That would be the hate part.
Just this morning, I was talking to a friend on the phone and they shared with me that one great thing they are to do, but because of decisions made and circumstances at times beyond their control they can not take hold of that one great thing. I asked this person, “It is interesting to watch you not give up on this dream you have, regardless that everything and everyone around says this is not going to happen.
I told them of this book and said, “The other interesting part is that you know what you are supposed to do and can not, while the rest of us, would do it, if we knew what to do.”
The encouragement in all of this, is, we each have gifts and talents. And, God wishes to reveal them to us and use them through us. I am convinced beyond any doubt of that part.
So, I will leave you with this verse and hopefully you will continue to pursue your one great thing.
“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.” Psalm 37:5-6
I mean, eventually you and I have to find our one great thing we are supposed to do…it is already within us…dadgummit!
