Last week my wife, oldest daughter and I were dining at a restaurant and as we often due struck up a conversation with the server. It is a great place to find inspiring stories for writing. People will just open up their hearts to you in they feel they can trust you.
Tammy and I graduated from the same high school but not the same year. I am considerably older. Yet she has been married and divorced three times. I could not help but inquire as to how she had chosen three different men but for some reason none of them had worked out like the fairy tale.
So I asked Tammy to give our daughter some advice as to how to pick out the right man for her future. And she did give some practical tips based on the decisions she had made. I wanted to gain wisdom from the decisions in her past that had definitely affected her future.
We each make decisions that affect our future. We speak of our future as though it will never get here, but it is so close, in fact, the next minute after the present minute is our future. And in this minute we are making decisions that will affect the following minute. When you break it down that way, the future becomes much closer.
Earlier today I sent a verse to a friend who is traveling through some rough waters right now in life. It was sent in hopes that it would be an encouragement for their future.
“I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.” Isaiah 48:17
Look closely as to the decisions you are making today and re-consider the impact they will have upon your future and others in your life.
And be encouraged in the fact that though we each make many mistakes and errors in judgment regarding our future, somehow God has a way of taking the pieces of broken lives and piecing them together to make a beautiful future for us.
