I was talking to a friend today and this specific verse did not come up, but, this thought came up, “I wonder if God beats us up, or even Satan for that matter, as much as we beat up ourselves?’
We are so hard on ourselves at times that God nor Satan really has to do anything. I would guess God just waits until we are done hammering ourselves into smithereens, (I love that word) and then puts the pieces of our lives back together.
King David has an insight here, or at least, was praying toward one.
“Restore to me the joy of my salvation and sustain me with a willing spirit.” Psalm 51:12
I am one of those who just hammers himself while the grace and mercy of God are right there for me. Not a blindness to our own sin, but when we do fall short, and we do, and we will, then my gosh, let’s remember that God is really good at forgiveness and patience and faithfulness.
Give yourself a break and know that you are human, not a God-man, or God-woman, but just…a man or woman who need the loving forgiveness of God on a daily basis.
