Tonight I am preparing a lesson from II Timothy for a group of college age young people to be discussed tomorrow morning.
I will not attempt to write a commentary on this book of the Bible, mainly because I do not have the experience, expertise, nor wisdom to do so, but rather to bring out one phrase in the first chapter and sixth verse.
“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God which is in you.” II Timothy 1:6
To fan into flame. Maybe to stir up. Possibly to practice to make the enabling of the gift strong.
Everyone who has trusted their life to Christ has a God given gift within them. I believe that even those who have not trusted their life to Christ has a God given gift within them as well, it is just doubtful that they will every full realize it.
Now, not to show a false religous humility, but identify your gift, at least as you understand it today.
And then practice it. If it is writing, then write. If singing, then sing. If offering encouragement, then encourage.
Whatever your gift is, practice it and watch it grow.
