In preparing for a lesson directed to college age young adults I came across the following verses. I have heard them all my life, as you may have also.
The song that is being prepared for this topic is “You Revive Me” by Christy Knockles and the Passion City Church worship band. Great song, you should look into it. It is one of those songs that you can play over and over again.
In looking for a related passage I came across Matthew 11:28-29. Allow me to quote it here.
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me. for I am gentle and humble in heart, and your will find rest for your souls.”
The words of Christ are so reassuring, so comforting.
For me, the word that stands out from this passage is the word “all”. Maybe it could also be put this way. All who are weary, all who are heavy laden and I will give all rest.
It encompasses everyone. Each individual where not one is excluded. Of course, the condition is whether or not all choose to follow Christ and give over to him all of their cares, burdens and daily trials.
Imagine the most reassuring voice you have in your life. Whoever that is, capture their voice in your mind. Now imagine them saying these verses. Morgan Freeman is not necessarily part of my life, but I still imagine him saying them.
Hopefully, using your imagination in this way will allow you to breathe, settle your spirit, sit back for a moment and gather your thoughts, and if needed, redirect your path.
The neat part is that we run into people each and every day that need to find this same rest.
Please don’t hide it from them. It is intended for all.
