I Would Have Despaired…

April 10, 2012 by John Hembree Leave a Comment

But I did not. Why?

Because a friend of mine, Miranda Putnal, sent me a text last night and encouraged me to re-read Psalm 27 which I did, and to read her blog from yesterday, at mirandasuzanne.wordpress.com, which I did.

What a beautiful message in both cases. King David’s perspective and Miranda’s perspective.

Both saying, when you have trouble, find encouragement, safety, strength and goodness in the Lord.

Without going into details, yesterday was an extremely difficult day for me. Not work related at all. But as the day and evening went on, by the time it was 10:00 PM I was in a state of despair. Not doubting at all that God was there but asking Him to give me the strength to believe at a new level.

Then the text from Miranda came. So often, why do we often see ourselves as such lowly creatures that God would never use us to speak to another? When in fact, that is how, along with His Word, that He most often speaks. Thankfully, Miranda was confident in her ability to hear from God on my behalf.

I would have despaired for a time. But I am reminded throughout this entire chapter that God will give me strength and a hiding place and that I will be able to hold my head high above all enemies.

I would have despaired is to say that I would have done just that…but…did not. Why?

Because God so used one of His children, His handmaidens, His servants, to say to me, “John, you are in trouble and you need to be reminded of God’s purpose in your life.” (Paraphrased)

So, how do I approach the day now?

In this manner.

“My heart will not fear; Though war rise up against me, IN SPITE OF THIS I SHALL BE CONFIDENT.”

Be a Miranda Putnal to someone today. Step out there, extend yourself into the life of another person…today.

In their day of trouble, show them the hiding place.
