An Everyday Expression of Hope and Its Potential

An Everyday Expression of Hope

THE KIND WE’RE LOOKING FOR…

February 10, 2012 by John Hembree Leave a Comment

We are recruiting in our 18-25 year old group at our church, Glen Haven Baptist Church, this group is also known as the college and career group. We are experiencing a lot of growth and having a lot of fun with free breakfast, live music and topics that are related to 18-25 year olds and their culture.

In our recruitment, we are looking for bold, courageous, intelligent, passionate men and women who want to have their life actually matter and for those who come behind to know the effects of their legacy.

Here is a list of the type of people we are looking for.

Matthew – Suffered martyrdom by being slain with a sword at a distant city in Ethiopia.

Mark – Died at Alexandria, after being cruelly dragged through the streets of the city.

Luke – Was hanged upon an olive tree in the classic land of Greece.

John was put in a caldron of boiling oil, but escaped death in a miraculous manner, and was afterward banished to Patmos.

Peter was crucified at Rome with his head downward.

James, the Greater, was beheaded at Jerusalem.

James, the Less, was thrown from a lofty pinnacle of the temple, and then beaten to death.

Bartholomew was flayed alive.

Andrew was bound to a cross, where he preached to his persecutors until be died.

Thomas was run through the body with a lance in the East Indies.

Jude was shot to death with arrows.

Matthias was first stoned and then beheaded.

Barnabas of the Gentiles was stoned to death.

Paul after various tortures and persecutions was beheaded in Rome.

Oh heck, that was the wrong list. That was the list of the apostles and disciples who followed Christ. I got that mixed up with a list to recruit nice, warm and fuzzy college age kids who sing about Jesus but rarely take on the responsibility and the danger of being a follower but are quite comfortable being a fan of Jesus.

Which one do you want to be?

We are looking for followers and that is why I am actively looking for people to become followers of Christ, not fans of Jesus.

The next three Sundays at 9:45 a.m. at Glen Haven Baptist Church we will be talking about this type of follower.
