Early this morning I was working out and out of the blue came this thought in my head, “Christians no longer offer a standard.” I know that is not the case across the board and there are many, many christians who do. However, in the United States we seem to be moving away from a standard of living that has long ago been established. And because we no longer live the standard, people who are living out lives contrary to God’s purpose hide behind terms like “grace” and “mercy” and phrases like, “who are you to judge?”
We have backed off the standard and now the standard is slowing disappearing and in it’s place come lives that promote selfishness and meism, greed, injustice, immoral lives that are not the ways God intended for us to live. The lines are so mixed and the lines are so crossed no wonder people who are searching for truth can no longer find it.
It is not about tearing people down, it is more about waking people up and having them return to a Godly standard, which is, yes, higher than today’s low standards, many of which are being promoted by the current culture and even in the “church.” The “warm and fuzzy” gospel is killing the actual truth of the Gospel.
“Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; and you shall find rest for your souls.” Jeremiah 6:16
How much clearer does it have to be? We are supposed to live differently, to act with passion toward injustice, to respond to lifestyles and actions that are quite frankly, morally unacceptable to God.
Tomorrow, don’t judge, but observe the world around you. And if you want to find rest for your souls and to offer that same rest and hope to others, commit Jeremiah 6:16 to memory, live it and allow God to give you opportunities to share that verse with others as it was shared with me, just this morning.
