And I am sitting on the side my bed, not yet made, watching my ten month old grandson sleep in his baby bed, with my Bible turned to 1 Corinthians 13.
And the following words fill my heart.
Love in very patient and kind.
Love is never jealous or envious.
Love is never boastful or proud.
Love is never selfish, haughty or rude.
Love does not demand it’s own way.
Love is not irritable or touchy.
Love does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong.
If you love someone you will be loyal to them no matter what the cost.
You will always believe in them, always expect the best of them, and always stand your ground in defending them.
At 03:28 a.m. earlier this morning it was the following verse that captured my mind from this same chapter.
Because it so speaks to life.
Now all I know is hazy and blurred, but I will see everything clearly, just as clearly as God sees into my heart right now.
On this Valentines Day, there is nothing, absolutely nothing hidden from God.
The following twenty four words are slowly but hopefully certainly becoming my goal for the rest of my life.
I am more aware now than I have ever been that God did not give me life to exclude or judge anyone.
He gave me life so that I might love people and build people up and include them in the beauty of this life which they will find in Christ.
These are the following twenty four words.
There are three things that remain – – faith, hope and love – – and the greatest of these is love. Let love be your greatest aim.
Not success as we define it to be.
Not power or money, position or title, academic or religious understanding…none of that.
Our greatest aim should be love.
On this Sunday morning, which is a day set aside for loving God and our fellow man, and on Valentines Day, a day centered on love, I am held hostage, at least for these few moments by the innocence that sleeps three feet away from me, and a world of people that God created in His own image, that are desperately desiring to love and be loved by the standard that started with these words…love is very patient and kind…
…Happy Valentines Day
