And that is where you will find yourself.
It is most certainly where you will find God.
Several years ago now, a family in our church, was impacted by the accidental drowning of their very young son.
The whole church felt the tremendous loss, but in no way could that compare to the life altering experience the family would experience.
A few years after this had happened, I was talking to the father of this family one night after church.
He had stopped to ask me how I was doing after the loss of my mother.
The ongoing effects of his own loss was weighing heavy upon him that night, and he was sensitive as to how I was doing.
We were discussing the support of people around us.
I do not recall verbatim his words, but it was similar to this.
“John, I would not want anyone to go through what we went through. But you know where I found God most faithful? It was a couple of weeks after everything was over, and good hearted people, who had been there for us, went back to their own lives. And it got quiet. Very, very quiet. But that is where I found God in all of this.”
It is often in the darkest places that we see God’s light.
It is often in the quietest places we hear God’s voice.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105
Why would the Psalmist write this verse in such a manner?
When would we need a lamp and a light while walking?
When we are walking through dark places.
It is during these dark times that we discover who we are.
The weight of a circumstance weighs upon us and bends us low, but we will not break, we will not be brought down.
During difficult times, we find strength we did not even know we possessed.
When you are feeling overwhelmed by life, by your seemingly inevitable demise, be encouraged by the following verses.
“O God, my heart is quiet and confident. No wonder I can sing your praises!” Psalm 57:7
“Yes, though a mighty army marches against me, my heart shall know no fear! I am confident that God will save me.” Psalm 27:3
Be open to looking within your naked heart.
God is already there.
He left a light to guide your way.
