In the movie, Field of Dreams, Kevin Costner, played Ray Kinsella, a young farmer in Iowa, who believed that he was supposed to build a baseball field in the center of acres of planted corn.
He had heard a voice in the middle of a field.
A voice telling him to, “Build it and they will come.”
Because of his devotion to the voice, the farm is a few short hours away from being foreclosed upon.
Those with negative voices speaking to him.
“You’re going to lose the farm.” “You’re broke. In the morning when the bank opens up they will foreclose.” “Just sign the papers.”
Yet he would not be discouraged by those other voices that were predicting his demise.
A scene from the movie, shows James Earl Jones, playing Terrance Mann, as the sole believer in the vision Ray Kinsella has set upon.
Not unlike this scene, another man set out also after hearing a voice.
He heard a voice in the middle of the wilderness.
A voice saying, “Lead them and they will go.”
Also surrounded by those who could only reflect upon the negative impression of their surroundings.
“Why did you lead us out here to die?” “Were there not enough graves where we were?” “We told you this would happen.” “Why didn’t you just leave us alone?”
Like Ray Kinsella, a man named Moses had heard a voice.
A voice so strong it could not be ignored.
All the other voices around him, including his own family, were drowned out by the voice that was telling Moses to lead his people out of hundreds of years of bondage, and into the land that had been promised to them.
As Terrance Mann said to Ray Kinsella, “People will come Ray.”, Moses said to those who surrounded him, full of fear, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand where you are and watch, and you will see the wonderful way the Lord will rescue you today.”
Are you listening to a voice or to voices?
The quiet voice inside of you saying, “Move forward and do what I have told you to do!”
Or the negative voices that surround you screaming, “You are going down and you are taking us down with you.”
Be true to the voice you must follow.
You must follow the voice which says, “People will come Ray. People will most definitely come.”
