What if someone wished that upon us and it came true?
Can you imagine the disaster that would cause?
A few examples from my day today where I lied.
Lie: “I will pray for you today.” Truth? I did not. I totally forgot.
Lie: “Me? I am doing great. Very encouraged. Getting a lot done.” Truth? Actually it was a tough day and I did not accomplish near what I wanted to.
Lie: “I am sorry. I was distracted.” Truth? I heard every word you said which explained my momentary immaturity.
Lie: “I really do not care.” Truth? I did care.
Lie: “I would like the steamed vegetables with brown sauce and water.” Truth? I really wanted the mongolian chicken with sweet tea.
Lie: “I will be glad to get all the Christmas decorations down. This is going to be fun.” Truth? I simply did not want to do it.
Lie: “I am an honest truthful man.” Truth? The previously listed six lies prove that I am not.
But I could be…if only I would tell the truth.
You may not have a truth filter and the truth comes out so brutally honest that others are destroyed by your honesty.
You may have a truth filter that causes you to spare someone’s feelings and unfortunately spare them the truth as well.
Is there a sin in there somewhere?
Somewhere in between?
“Simply let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes’, and your “No’, ‘no’, anything beyond this comes from the evil one.” Matthew 5:37
So I guess there is a sin in there somewhere. And it is my sin.
So, let’s take the next twenty four hours and choose to tell the truth spoken in love one moment at a time.
“Blessed is the man that makes the Lord his trust, and respects not the proud, nor turns aside to lies.” Psalm 40:4
