“Youth is not entirely a time of life it is a state of mind. Nobody grows old by merely living a number of years. People grow old by deserting their ideals. You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubts as young as your self-confidence, as old as your fear as young as your hope, as old as your despair.”
– Douglas MacArthur
It’s something we all must do eventually.
I couldn’t even begin to count the times I heard that as a child.
And, to a degree, it is true.
We have responsibilities that must be attended to.
Sometimes we let those responsibilities relieve us of our dreams. We let them relieve us of our goals.
And some of us even let them relieve us of our faith.
I am not suggesting that we need not grow up.
Or am I?
Of course I do not mean that we should ignore responsibility. I do not mean that we should make rash decisions, with absolutely no logic behind them.
But we cannot lose sight of our faith.
Matthew 18:3-4: And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
That’s Jesus talking, not me.
We cannot let our faith be diminished.
Approach our Creator like a child?
Yes. We just can’t live our lives as Christians believing that we have all the answers. Because we do not have all the answers.
Good news, though.
We have Someone in our lives who does.
