I am going through the Bible and finding various scenarios where the Lord told his followers not to touch something for it was holy. One of those was the Ark of the Covenant.
In the Ark of the Covenant was the original tablets of stone in which the ten commanments were inscribed and the precense of the Lord dwelled. God had instructed the priests that no one should in any way touch the Ark of the Covenant. If they did, they would die.
As King David was having the Ark moved one of the oxen stumbled causing the Ark to shift. As it shifted, Uzzah reached and took hold of it to keep it from shifting.
The Bible says in verse seven of 2 Samuel 6 that “the anger of the Lord burned against Uzzah, and God struck him down there fo this irreverence; and he died there by the Ark of God.”
It was such a big deal that King David became angry at God for his outburst against Uzzah. This is once again an example of something very precious to God that no one else was to touch.
Not that I understand it, but this is another example of something that God put right in the midst of the people and told them do not touch.
Are there other covenants in our life we are to so revere that nothing should touch them?
The covenant we have between us and God the Father.
The covenant we made in the vows of marriage.
Can you think of covenants in your own life you have made and that are so sacred and that no one should handle them irresponsibly or touch them in an unholy manner? And what do you do to keep them holy.
